The Band of Broken Hearts

the theatre is filling for the first night of the show
come on and bring your friends in, everyone must go
the auditorium is hushed, and the lights are low

the sense of expectation is palpable and plain
with deftness and dexterity and some legerdemain
they'll render best endeavours to perform and entertain

they're backstage waiting for you
come on everyone, give them a hand

though with their make-up on, teardrops might fall
at the top of the bill is the saddest joker of them all
roll up, roll up and see the broken hearts !

you'll gaze on in amazement, and gawp all googleeyed
at seasoned show-professionals who take it in their stride
they well disguise their true emotions hurting deep inside
the climax of proceedings broadcast on the web worldwide

they want to please and slay you
come on everyone, give them a hand

but as I said before - teardrops might fall
