Steam Train

we're gonna ride on a steam train
straight on down the line
and then the whistle will blow toot toot
right there at the station sign

we're going on an excursion
the train starts with a tug
the station master will wave his flag
the engine will go chug chug

and we're riding a steam-train, steam-train, steam-train, steam-train

and now we're swaying and shaking
what spiffing fun, what larks
a locomotive up there in front
is puffing out smoke and sparks

the polished clunkety engine
with tender just behind
is pulling us on a magic trip
and who can say what we'll find

as we're riding a steam-train, steam-train, steam-train, steam-train

posh old pullman carriage cars,
and interlocking moving bars of steel
white steam from a hissing jet
comes belching from behind the metal wheel

spitting out the cinders like a friendly dragon now

the in and out of the pistons
that everyone enjoys
the friendly linesman has changed the points
they're making a rattling noise

....

and we're riding a steam-train, steam-train, steam-train, steam-train

gentle bends and soft inclines
and red and white striped signal signs and sleepers
arching bridges made of brick
and gaps in lines where wheels go click but keep us

safely moving forward in the right direction oh

we're having fun on a steam train
our puffing faithful friend
we want the whistle to blow toot toot
we don't want the ride to end
