in my life I have made some bad mistakes because I've been a stubborn fool
I've seen times when I got my just deserts, because my attitude was cruel
some depressing times in solitude just sat there on a shelf
heaven knows, deserving punishments I've brought upon myself
even times I knew I was at fault but blamed somebody else
as I lashed out wildly to hurt, I didn't care who

I say without reserve now
I really don't deserve now
such a good dear friend as you

I've been selfish and careless to extremes, and made misjudgements by the score
faults I ought to attribute to myself I've laid at someone else's door
as for other people's feelings I've behaved without a care
as I realise this now, here in the darkness of despair
when I turn around to look for help your hand is always there
I have never known one as understanding as you
