put down that glossy magazine describing how to fix cars
and throw away that tome about preserving jam in jamjars
and then dismiss that scientific book on Venus and Mars
forget those stars
just put them all to one side and concentrate on me

just leave aside those illustrated works of Henri Matisse
and drop that list of awkward plurals like one goose and two geese
and any plans to turn to Tolstoy and complete War and Peace
really must cease

no prolonging or protraction
free your mind from any distraction
focus on one primary point
and give me your total attention

drop that copy of your cv
skips those ads on channel 4 tv
look this way and keep your gaze turned
absolutely in my direction

abandon thoughts of cleaning clothes or wiping floors with a mop
ignore reviews by critics saying some first night is a flop
and any lists of grocery items to be bought from the shop
all have have to stop
just put them all to one side and concentrate on me
