Somewhere in the Middle

someone here is sitting languishing with grief
letting torrid teardrops drench a handkerchief
flicking through some photos who can say of whom ?
somewhere in the middle of an empty room

captured in one picture, posing with a smile
somebody who once was, somebody erstwhile
on the poignant photo rolling back the years
somewhere in the middle blots of fallen tears

it really stings and hurts

and in these surroundings no forgetfulness
self-recrimination lives with loneliness
here amidst the debris where it fell apart
somewhere in the middle cries a broken heart
