if my eyes look up to the vaulted heights
and perceive connections in fantastical arrays of lights
you may sigh and call it shame that what we see is not the same
but you have no right to tread upon my dreams

if a light should shine in the dark of night
and illuminate my world and and give it resonance of sight
if my eyes' reality is something yours choose not to see
well, you have no right to tread upon my dreams

how wonderful to meditate interpretatively
let a simple dreamer dream, and let a simple dreamer's dreams be free

how awe-inspiring to star-gaze in rolling reverie
if a simple dreamer dreams, then let a simple dreamer's dreams be free

if a candle-flame should emit light-rays
which alight and dance on images in thought-provoking ways
if those photons that we see you would describe differently
well, you have no right to tread upon my dreams
