I Got It Wrong
ghostly shapes and silhouettes and phantoms in my head
haunting me, surrounding me, like smoky wispy thread
why was I so unaware so long ?
somewhere down the line I got it wrong
golden opportunities I held within my hand
squandered and misused, thrown to the wind like scattered sand
how could I have been the fool so long ?
somewhere in my life I got it wrong
once I was young, with no aim in my heart
on a quilt made of patches and threads
now I reflect as it all falls apart
and my life is in tatters and shreds
chronicles of wasted time and wasted could-have-beens
living life from day to day, not asking what it means
how could I have wasted time so long ?
somewhere down the line I got it wrong
gazing on life and my dreams as they set
in the sun as my lonely heart aches
shedding salt tears in a pool of regret
well they say we all learn by mistakes
self-obsessed with momentary joys all else above
stupid and incapable of recognising love
why was I so ignorant so long ?
somewhere down the line I got it wrong
somewhere in my life I got it wrong
oh so wrong
