when you dance upon my grave I will not mind
not if you smile, not if my songs were things that gave you pleasure

every person in this world has in their heart
some simple thing, some simple gift they long to share with others

and what little I could do, slight though it might be, I leave with you

when you dance upon my grave don't be unkind
please sing the songs I leave behind

not everyone has genius to change the earth
but everyone can play their part for what it's worth
by giving thought and exercising loving care
so if I've simply caused some hands to clap
or if I've simply caused some feet to tap
then I will not regard myself as having lived and died here in vain . . .
. . . then I will not regard my life as having been fruitless
