Southern Heat
I'm out here working in the nineties
waiting for a cool breeze to blow across my brow
I'm doing labour and I'm sweating
and the temperature's past getting too hot
I'm being stifled in the stickiness and find it hard to breathe
the noon-day air incinerating the sky like a living hell
tired hands, tired feet
I'm aching and breaking, my body's doggone burning with southern heat
and in my hands all things are slipping
beads of sweat are dripping from every single pore
it's like the sun above's intending for there aint to be no ending in sight
I'm all exhausted and I'm baked out and I'm drained of everything
and every dehyrated muscle in me doesn't want to move
tired hands, tired feet
I'm aching and breaking, my body's doggone burning with southern heat
I'm drowning with debilitation
there aint no operation I'm able to perform
in every part there's monumental physical and mental fatigue
the thing is, I aint got no choice except to stand and sweat and swelter
while I'm hammered like a forge in the sun till it's deadened me
tired hands, tired feet
I'm aching and breaking, my body's doggone burning with southern heat`
