Guess I Made a Mess of My Life
on the roadway of life I saw an indicator
it said choose right, or you'll regret it later
but still I took that go-down elevator
guess I made a mess of my life
there were thousands of words that pointed to perfection
but I kept headed in the wrong direction
I only see that now in retrospection
guess I made a mess of my life
now I look, and a million mistakes are just scattered around and strewn
in a way I can never repair, like a burst balloon
now too late in the day, I've done some analysing
I really was a fool not recognising
when there were voices speaking and advising
guess I made a mess of my life
now the sum of my life's a monument to folly
instead of being jubilant and jolly
through my mistakes I made it melancholy
guess I made a mess of my life
I'm a fool who had everything needed spelt out for me, more or less
and I blew it, and wasted my chances of happiness
there were plenty of signs advising me to show care
they led the way, but no, I didn't go there
and now I've won first prize for getting nowhere
guess I made a mess of my life
guess I made a mess of my life
