Just One More Drink Not Two

last night in the pub I was subject to ribaldry, torment and jibe
in answer to loud imprecations, I promised I would not imbibe
I ventured a vow of forbearance
and what a mistake it would be now to break it
indeed to my word I'll be true
so, just one more drink, not two

to trim off this flab on my stomach, to tone up and lessen the bulge
my firm resolution is I will in liquid no longer indulge
all boozing is strictly forsworn now
I'm sparing, restraining, and firmly abstaining

drinking is evil, I'm through with the stuff

to whom it concerns in this matter
I make this announcement of rotgut renouncement

drinking is something I'm serious about

I'll banish the craving and need for those bottles of pernicious brew
I'll answer the temperance calling to shun, disavow and eschew (bless you)
I've vowed to reduce and restrict now
and with every sinew I will discontinue
indeed to my word I'll be true
