The Sweetest Part

at six o'clock or so in the morning
somewhere around that time when it's dawning
half-awake I roll over on my side

I open up my sleepy eyes and kiss you tenderly
and you dreamily
sidle up to me

angel in a dream

I slowly stretch my arm out to hold you
and let my total body enfold you
now and then I nudge at you with my knee

and for a while we lie and we chat and

finally we force ourselves out of bed

we open up the curtains wide
and let the light stream in from the world outside
almost dreamy-eyed

then we kiss again

we slowly make our way to the kitchen
where you prepare some tea while I pitch in
spreading raspberry jam very liberally

we've a good relationship based on mutual care and trust
something that is special in every way
and this thing that joins us as one is even more special just
because it's part of every day
