I can stand here and fall apart
as I cope with a broken heart

pearly drops of diamond dew, different texture and a different hue
needles on the evergreen now all shining with a different sheen
North Pole Star and Southern Cross covered over with a different gloss

everything is just the same, and yet it's totally different
somehow it's totally different
the world is totally different

there's something different in the way I yawn
there's something different when I watch the dawn
there's something different when I lie in bed
there's something different when I scratch my head
all the familiar things that surround me
sights and familiar noises around me
and every single conscious sensation no longer feels the same

stars the same as yesterday shine from heaven in a different way
arcing rainbows now parade every colour in a different shade
waves still break upon the shore, but somehow not the way they used to break before
everything is just the same, and yet it's totally different
somehow it's totally different
my world is totally different

there's something different in the way I feel
there's something different in what counts as real
there's something different when I try to trust
there's something different that I can't adjust

all the assumptions taken for granted
no longer straight but crooked and slanted
one-time beliefs that love was so simple different forevermore

I can wait for the view to clear
while I stare through a final tear
either way, something now is totally different

I can take hold and get things straight
or abandon myself to fate
