Fight for a Better Life

when the whole thing goes out of control we'll stop and we'll contemplate
and we will ponder the state of the world intelligently
and we will see what we did in the past and wrestle with consciences
and when we're floating in rivers of blood we'll stop and agree

we gotta fight for a better life and the war is over
we gotta pray that we recognise what we really need
we gotta fight for a better life and the war is over
and it's over when there is less, less greed

I can't explain this sad complaint
there ain't no votes in preaching love and self-restraint

well it's hard not to feel overwhelmed by a sad sense of helplessness
but if we each cry a million tears we'll fill up a sea
and when we next watch the news on tv - are we sitting comfortably ? -
remember, silence is merely the voice of complicity
